Plastic Surgery isn’t just for the Young Anymore
Take a look around you. Whether you realize it or not, cosmetic procedures are on the rise among the older generation who are 65 and over. In doing so, the elder population across America is becoming increasingly interested in going under the knife for reasons that are no different from those of younger individuals. This is particularly true with respect to enhancing one’s appearance in an effort to remain competitive in the workplace or to remain socially appealing to themselves as well as others. In fact, according to a recent study conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were over 84,000 cosmetic procedures performed on older people last year. While this information lends to the pervasiveness of plastic surgery in society among all adults groups, it is also indicative of a growing trend among older people that speak to a never ending desire to look your best.
Despite a considerable lack of studies that indicate a significant health risk to older people who undergo cosmetic procedures, it appears that the older generation are in fact no more susceptible to plastic surgery complications than younger patients. As a result, there is no reason that older people shouldn’t continue to utilize cosmetic procedures, (i.e. face lifts, eyelid surgery, liposuction, breast reduction, brow lifts and breast augmentation) in an effort to make themselves feel better about the way they look. This is especially true for those older people who remain an active member of society with little to no health concerns prior to undergoing a procedure.
